Khin
Maung Aye (Maths) of the Author
The author was born to U Ohn Myint (diseased) and
Daw Aye Kyin of Khandaw Quarter (where once there was a thick grove
of luxuriant khan-trees) on Bogyoke Road of Pakokku on the 15th of
September, 1957. Since youth, he has been fortunate to receive some
teaching from the Sayadaws of the Mahasiyeikthar Monastery on the
Bogyoke Road, Mahavithukarama (the Mid-point School) and Mandalay
Monastery (the Western School), and have read some Buddhist
literature there in Pakokku.
Having passed the 1975 Matriculation Examinations
with distinctions in Mathematics (100 full marks), Chemistry (90+)
and Physics (90), he entered the University of Yangon, holding a
distinguished Science Scholarship award. After receiving the
Bachelor degree, he served in some Associated High Schools as an
instructor with full responsibility for 2 years. After that,
establishing a private tuition school of his own, he single-handedly
and most successfully taught Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, and
English. He married a Myaing-native school teacher, Daw Nwe Kyi, and
together, they moved to Yangon in 1988.
Since 1990, assuming the name of
Khin Maung Aye as a tuition instructor in Mathematics, he set up
Boarder House, wrote books on Mathematics and established Pyinnyar
Beikman Publishing House, all successfully. Since his university
days, he had the opportunity to spend much time in the University
and Kaba Aye Pagoda libraries to study Buddhist literature
extensively.
In 1996, he published and distributed about a
hundred thousand copies of the legends of 28 Buddhas as a matter of
dhamma dāna. He has so far donated 30 sets of Ti-Pitaka. On his
return from Buddha-Gaya in the year 2000, he concentrated his energy
to publish articles and books on Buddhist literature.
Khin
Maung Aye has been a businessman and a teacher: he taught at his
privately owned Mathematics Tuition School and ran
.
Boarding House for 20 years. He retired from that business at the
age of 40 in the year 2000, after 20 years of successful operation.
He then embarked upon a writing career and a business of publication
and distribution of books and other articles of educational and
religious material. The books he has so far published include
Mathematics for Standards 4 through 10 and,
.
Logarithmic tables, Physics and Chemistry for Standards 9 and 10,
distributing them at low profits only allowable for the upkeep of
his family. He distributed religious literature at cost prices
(charity values) only.
He has studied parauatti literature and done some
parapatti practice. He joined Ledi-Anāgam Saya Thetgyi Vipassanā
Association in 2006 and worked for kusala (spiritual benefits) as a
member of its Executive Committee.
Since then he has, with approval of the
Association President Sayagyi Min Yu Wai, delivered dhamma talks on
9 occasions, each lasting 15 minutes to an hour on behalf of the
Committee members at opening and closing ceremonies of meditation
sessions.
The list of retreat centres where the 15-minutes-to-one-hour
lectures were delivered:
-
He acted as secretary to the 45-day Training
Course for Meditation Instructors for monks, organized by the
Association, held at Mahāramsi Monastery, Pathein. Granted by
the Mahāramsi Sayadaw, he gave a 45-minute lecture to the 68
trainee monks and several donors of food and other essentials on
the subject of the 28-Buddhas and other by-gone Buddhas as
innumerable as the grains of sand in the River Ganga, working on
the basis of Mathematical postulation.
Talks were given on the invitation of the Head Monks at the
following places:
-
Laity's Retreat at Mahāramsi Pariyatti and
Patipatti Monastery, Pathein;
-
Mingalar Aung Myay Pariyatti and Patipatti

Myint and Committee members).
Talks on Dhamma Books were held at Pakokku
Dhammayon. Near North Gate, Shwedagon Pagoda, Arzarni Road, Yangon:
-
In November, 2008, the 6th printing of
"Illustrated Pathāna and Explanations of 24 Paccayas" was
commemorated.
How the Buddha began to talk on Pathāna and how it was
disseminated among human beings were explained by way of
namasandarakhaasama, with visual aid by a slideshow of 36
illustrations, to an audience of around 300.
-
On the 12th of December, 2009, an
inauguration ceremony for the first publication of "Sotāpana, to
be Worthy of Human Life" was held. As the attendants exceeded
500 in number, some had to listen to the talk, standing due to
want of sitting space. The book was so popular that over 10,000
copies were sold out in a week. There were many who gave the
books away as charitable gifts.
The Full-moon Day of Kason, May 2011, will usher in the Buddha
Year 2600 (45 years of Buddhahood + Sāsanā Year 2555). To
welcome in homage to the Buddha Year, books and posters will be
published and distributed on charity, and also talks given to
the public. (This projected busy life, incapacitating the author
to regularly attend meetings, has caused him to retire from
membership of the Ledi-Anāgam Saya Thetgyi Vipassanā
Association.) Regarding this, those who are interested in
organizing true Theravāda Dhamma talks are requested to kindly
contact him one month in advance.
The largest poster (10 ft. by 40 ft.) depicting the Illustrated
Pathāna and the explanation of the 24 paccayas has been donated
by
.
Khin Maung Aye and family, hung on display near the entrance to
the lift on the Southern Gate of the Shwedagon Pagoda. Other
various sizes of the poster have been donated and distributed to
over 500 sites throughout the country,
As arrangements have been made for other would-be donors to
follow suit in setting up the posters at affordable prices
(charity market), there are now over 2000 sites displaying the
posters. Whoever wants to donate these books and posters, orders
may be placed with
.
Khin Maung Aye's Paññā Beikman Book Store via this website or by
e-mail. Just as
.
Khin Maung Aye himself has done, likewise other donors may
donate those books, vinyl and paper posters at prices fixed at
service costs with no profits. No service charges have also been
made by the author-organizer. This is a real treat, a real
Dhamma Dāna market for one and all.
